Out comes Janet Hurricane, her hoodie veil blinding her face. As the tempo gets faster and faster, we see her jumping up and down, still cannot see her face. Once we hear the lyrics, Janet reveals her face to the crowd and screams out to the fans. She then starts making her way down to the ring, bopping her head to the music and in her own zone, not giving a damn about the fans’ reaction. Once she enters the ring, she takes off her hoodie and once again screams out to the crowd, saying, “I’M RATED R, BITCH!"
Biography: They say you can know alot about a person just by looking at their eyes. Well this can be true about Janet "Hurricane" Benjamin. Born and raised in Greensville, North Carolina and brought up from a once normal family, Janet always thought of herself as someone destined for greatness, no matter what life has in store for her. Her family were all huge wrestling fans (especially her two brothers Travis and James) and together as a family, they tried to attend any wrestling event they can that are happening close to their hometown
Anyway, like said before, The Benjamin were once a normal family that had a close bond with each other. However, one tragic event happened when Janet was only eight changed their family dynamic forever. The death of Janet’s oldest brother Travis due to the flooding of the Greensville caused by Hurricane Floyd. The death of Travis Benjamin caused the family to split apart. Janet's mom blamed the death on her husband for not evacuating the house when the call for evacuation was called. Also blamed him for not saving Travis. Bills started to pile up after the funeral and James Benjamin started to have behavioural problems both at school and at home. The family weren't the same and Janet watched her family, her once loving family that she cherished so much in the world, fall apart at a young age. To make matter worse, James ran away from home at the age of sixteen to pursued his music career (and then wrestling's career later on) with his naive friends. Add that with her parents divorcing, and you got a poor little kid that is closed to losing her own insanity. No more going to wrestling events, no more having family day, no more laughter and joy in the Benjamin household. All replaced by misery and despair
The court battles between her mom and dad was brutal and at the end, Janet had the decision to go to England with her mother or moved to Charlotte with her father. She chose to be with her father and watched bitterly as her mother leaves the country to go to Europe.
Janet dealt with depression and dealing with the loss of most of her family. Like her brother James, at middle school all the way to high school, she had troubles with her education. She developed the goth look and got suspended for beating the crap of a chick who criticized her fashion and the way she dressed. Her father, not wanting to see his little girl rot her life way because of series of events that he blames himself for letting it happened, finally did something about it. He took her to a wrestling show, the first wrestling event she has been in almost a decade. It wasn't just any wrestling show, but a show featuring her big brother James Benjamin at a fed called NAW(went by the ring name James "Omega" Child). The joy of watching her brother wrestle for the first time ever was enough to remind her why she loved the sport so much. After the match, she approached James from backstage and begged him to come back to North Carolina. James reluctantly declined, but made a proposal that he will help her train to become a wrestler.
And he did, James, along with his mentors Jay Champ and CCW hall of famer Joseph King, as well as other trainers and even Jay's students, helped trained the youngest member of the Benjamin's family member how to wrestle. Although Janet's father was a bit disappointed that Janet didn’t want to go to post-secondary school, he was happy enough that Janet's grades were getting better and it was enough to get her graduate from high school.
As soon as she graduated, Janet went on an Indy circuit tour with her brother James and continued to grow as a wrester. When James was signed to UCW, Janet served as James’ manager and studied his brother and his opponents’ styles of wrestling.
Janet herself also was signed in a few wrestling companies, but none of them wanted to book her and she was tired of sitting around and doing nothing. Finally, she got a call from EPW owner Michael Kennedy who watched her wrestling tapes and was impressed of her work. Unfortunately, EPW closed down before she can even make a noticeable impact. She joined LPW as soon as EPW folded and had her first "feud." It was against Oceania, a famous British athlete that developed a mean streak and bullying wrestlers and non-wrestlers just because she wanted to be noticed. Janet stood up to Oceania when she attacked Makayla Wright. From then, they had a bitter rivalry in both in and out of the ring (Twitter war). Although Janet scored a pinfall victory over Oceania one time, the war wasn't over with them. Unfortunately, they didnt get a rematch because LPW folded as well within months.
After LPW was closed down, Janet went back to the Indy circuit to hone her skills and continued serving as James and his tag-team partner Prince Adjei as their manager. Together, the group were known as Rated R Generation and Child and Adjei became the longest reigning UCW Tag-team Champions in UCW history. However, Adjei had other sights in mind and wanted to pursue a solo career in UCW while they were still tag-team champs. Child was bitter about it, but accepted Adjei’s decision. Not willing to give up the titles, Child decided that his sister Janet was now ready to make her dream a reality and that is becoming a wrestler and his tag-team partner. Janet gladly accepted the offer and with the UCW management approval, Janet became Child’s tag-team partner and they held on to the UCW tag-team championships a little longer before losing the belt.
Months later, UCW went down to the ground and Janet was once again out of a job. She debuted in XPW as her friend Cloud’s tag-team partner but that ultimately failed. She then went to couple of other feds before making her way to AXW. There in AXW is where she truly started to make a name of herself. In AXW, she wasn’t just known as James Child’s little sister, but rather one of the greatest AXW Woman Champions, joining the ranks of Sierra Starr, Zoey Mitchell-Mathews, Ambiance and of course Caitlin Shay. Some might say she is indeed the best AXW Woman Champion ever but she doesn’t need a t-shirt or a catchphrase to say that *cough*CaitlinShay*cough.* 2016 was considered to be a big year for her as she became two-time AXW Woman Champion and the woman to send Sierra Starr out the door and “retire” Zoey Mathews. Now it’s a matter of time until she reaches success again.
