It obviously didn't take long for word to reach AXW Hall Of Famer and ultimate AXW detractor, Duncan Aries, the current FWA Professional Wrestling Champion, about the April return of his former home.
Aries, always vocal about the promotion where the ire between him and Luke Mathews, along with his never achieved fourth AXW Title reign remain the stuff of legend, had the following to say when asked on the San Diego based podcast "Ring The Bell"
"You want to believe lessons were learned and things will be different this time, but let's be honest with ourselves here. AXW has always been one disaster away from the end, one bad business decision away from total closure, and perhaps, perhaps this is really just masochism at this point. Either way, I wish nothing but the best for the poor, unfortunate souls who sign on the dotted line. At least they'll get a week's pay."
Aries, now 42 years of age and nearing his 43rd birthday this fall, is being discussed as possibly retiring from the ring around that time. One has to wonder if he will negate on his obligations to FWA, put off retirement, and head back to AXW for one final run. When pressed on this, Aries replied:
"Look, I have nothing more to prove in this sport. Not a damn thing. Over two decades of nothing but success, of putting asses in seats, and making wherever I was the place to be. Right now, I am the face of FWA, and that's what I look on being until I decide I'm done. Past that, I don't see anything but sitting on my couch, spending time with my family, and wondering why, on this very week, I was even bothered to be brought up in the same breath as the company I made. Oh sure, AXW would be smart to come calling, I'm the reason it ever lasted as long and as many incarnations as it did. But right now, my phone isn't ringing, not from them, and I'm more than fine with that. AXW without Duncan Aries is a blip on the fucking radar, and once we finish our first week of April and AXW closes, AGAIN, they will realize how good they had it with Duncan Aries as the sun in which everything in AXW revolved. Oh, and fuck Luke, while we're at it."
